This quote from Rep. Brittany Peterson, the Colorado rep in the district that I am in, whom I’ve been following. I highly appreciate her stance against violence and applaud that.
“I also want to recognize that this shooting occurred right after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed in Utah. We must lock arms and denounce these horrific acts of political violence unequivocally. This is atrocious and not who we are as a country.”
Β
I think she has a lot of good understanding. While I may not agree with everything, there is much in our country that left and right can agree on. Non-violence in our country is a good place to start.
Technically I do not identify as Democrat, or at the moment as Republican either, so who knows where that leaves me… I guess I am an American and I will identify there.
We all agree that change is needed. One of the biggest changes that needs to come is the cessation of finger pointing from right to left and left to right.
We can state and disagree with the law or a behavior. But the moment we take what we disagree with and generalize to include an entire group of people, we need to change. We. Need to change.
Especially for believers there is no biblical stance for such Behavior, and plenty of Bible stance against it.
We are called to do justice and love Mercy and to walk humbly before our God. All the more if we are professing Jesus Christ as our Lord.
I would urge left and right to take a stand and Obey Christ instead of listening to the divisiveness that comes from a spirit that desires to destroy.
A few examples would be from my children’s kindergarten. “He was mean to me!” “He never does anything right!” “Nobody likes me!”
I learned early on to stop that kind of conversation in its tracks. One child is demanding punishment over another because the other is being mean. I got to the point where I would tell the kids I don’t want to hear those words. Do not tell me “he’s being mean to me.”
Me: What did he do? What did he say? Did he punch you?
Child: No.
Me: Did he pinch you?
Child: No.
Me: Did you did he call you a bad name?
Child:No.
Me: Okay so what he did he do?
Child: He was mean to me!
π³πππ
And the child fully expects punishment to be doled out and feels completely wrong if the punishment was not doled out.
Okay kids,π we can stop now.
I listen to the right leaders whom I follow and hear all sorts of things against the left, literally denouncing the left as a whole and as a group.
Absolutely insane crazy reality, because I really do believe everybody here is adults, then I follow the left, whom I also see has strengths and weaknesses, and once again I hear constant rhetoric denouncing the right as an entire whole group.
Children, we can stop. This benefits no one especially ourselves and our kids because we’re really not setting a good example for peacemaking on the playground.
Horrible thought… I just had this just now.. I wonder if this is why we have shootings in schools? Because we haven’t taught our children how to peacefully resolve our differences by Leading them by example. Just a thought I literally just had, so don’t sue me just yet. I would say shoot me, but that is not funny.
So what we can do is address issues instead of condemning people.
The politicians need to be honest – okay seriously, everybody stop laughing, I’m being serious here, just stop – and we need to divide the threads. The right calls it the big beautiful Bill and others call it the big ugly bill.
And we applaud or denounce a bill that has how many hundreds of threads in it?
So maybe pick out the major points of the threads that we disagree with and say, this is what the bill says here and this is what I disagree with.
Because we’re not teaching the people within our party to think, and even though we may think it’s good just to sway them by rhetoric, eventually that whole system will fall and it is falling.
There are so many issues out there right now. And honestly not everybody is gifted at logic and making quality judgments about political matters. Just like not everybody is good at writing music or doing sports, or fixing cars. And while it’s good that the American population can join in decision making, wisdom is knowing when we don’t have the knowledge to make good choices and need to turn it over to somebody else.
If my car needs to be fixed, and I decide that I’m going to fix it, I’m pretty sure the car would be worthless within about an hour. Likewise if I need surgery, I’m not going to a politician.
We hope and pray and trust that the people that we vote for can navigate the many issues without shutting down or being foolish, but we have diverse priorities, diverse beliefs, and we need to be able to navigate peacefully these differences.
Learning how to speak respectfully to people would be a number one way of doing that. Finding middle ground and understanding the diverse issues within one issue is another. Walking with compassion and humility is essential.
I have a dear friend that was able to get into Notre Dame on scholarship. She came from a lower income and the reality is that the upper income and the people there and the people that she would be meeting with ambassadors and such have a certain level of etiquette that would not be taught where she was raised. And Lord knows I would fail.
So she was required to take an etiquette class which she found incredibly beneficial and useful.
Perhaps all politicians should be required to take a 3-month class on how to speak respectfully and politely and how to disagree while giving the other side equal opportunity to disagree.
Another complication I believe, and this will be a generalization, I have not yet figured out the threads, so forgive my hypocrisy, is the fact that government was designed to be protector to keep the peace, to maintain roads, a certain degree of zoning, but we won’t discuss that… not to be family or Mom or Dad. Yes, this belief then touches on differences from left to right and there are many many threads in this conversation.
But the simple point that I’m trying to make from this is we have overwhelmed government so that there are so many decisions they now have to make it’s virtually impossible for them to effectively rule.
If responsibility and care for individuals was returned with proper Education and Training over a period of time in a balanced way to the family unit and the community unit, leaving the government to provide for the protection and the roads and the things which government should do, but not for the emotional and every minute medical need of the individuals, I believe it would strengthen the government.
Likewise over the past hundred or so years with our manufacturing and so many things we can do so quickly, human brains are not capable of processing so many decisions and we pretty much want everything we can have. So providing for our wants has left us incapable of providing for our needs.
This issue is a spiritual issue and needs to be addressed within communities but perhaps government can address it with itself and individuals as well. The older generation that remembers the Great Depression is so very shocked at our wantonness and waste and well they should be.
So without putting realistic limits upon ourselves, we have more to care for than we can possibly handle and society as we know it in the western world is collapsing. It will only be with the recognition that limits must be placed on a people that are free or they will no longer be free, and an intentional structured method to regain what we have lost that there would be any hope for our survival.
Again there are many many threads in that conversation on how time energy and resource this should be spent. the complication is we currently have a culture that believes we should have everything we want. If we do not set limits to our greed, and we do not teach our children from a young age to say no and to understand that no is perfectly appropriate in many situations, we should not be shocked when we have not set limits to what we put in front of their eyes as far as violence is concerned, when they have no comprehension that there should be limits to how they use guns. You can ban guns, and certainly productive measures should be set, but ultimately it is not gun control that we need, it is returned to the concept of self-control, to saying no to so many things in our day, so that the things that count toward life have the resources and time and energy to be put toward them.
Presidents and Politics can no more fix this nation than a Band-Aid can fix cancer. But certainly we can work towards Solutions, but the Cure goes much deeper.
So beloved children, right now there are enemies outside our country and enemies Within. Enemies that are seeking to destroy this nation Our Lives and the lives of our families.
Those enemies cause division where there should not be division, claim a Unity that is a false Unity where there should not be a false Unity.
Those enemies seek us to focus on the problems of others rather on the problems that we ourselves need to change.
But right now our children are dying because we are not dealing with things in the best manner. So this isn’t a cute reality TV show. You and I live in the 3D World and honestly our refusal to set limits in so many areas of life has infected an entire culture. It is only when we recognize the seriousness of the problem and start making huge cuts, not foolishly in a way that harms people hugely, but gently.
I would urge President Trump to set the example by following Jesus Christ’s words to sell everything he has give to the poor and take up his cross to follow Jesus. That would be a good position to start. but we have major changes to society and culture that we must make. we can’t afford the way we’re living. credit debt is foolish period of China called in our debt right now they would own us. we are both the modern day slaves and the modern day slave drivers but until we recognize the depth of the problems and are willing to come together to work on Solutions, the problems will persist.
I challenge every individual and political figure, to stop listening to the evil that is influencing our society, and humbly admit that we are part of the problem.
Take a breath and realize the whole structure needs a complete overhaul. I personally think the only place we’re going to get wisdom of how to do that is going to be from the Living God, so let us pray and seek Him daily.
But simple practical steps is admitting that we can’t fully solve this. Politicians can actually Point people to God as the solution instead of to themselves. I can show you how to play a beautiful piece of Bach, play it for you and say there wasn’t that simple? But attaining that takes years of practice,
…and don’t tell anybody, actually I’m not that good at sheet music, so I probably couldn’t do it myself.
But I’m really glad that when I do sit down to play piano, my left hand and right hand both work together pretty darn well.
And that is my prayer for this country.
Because without it, the symphony we’re trying to share with the world it’s coming much more across like a cacophony.
If we’re wanting beautiful music, we’re going to have to come together.
God’s peace.
