“The problem with homelessness is not ‘their problem,’ it’s our problem. They are not houseless; they are homeless.”

This is a messy rambling response to a post on nextdoor. There is good content, unfortunately I am going to post it as is because I know if I wait to edit it, it will never get posted. Anybody with left brain skills wishing to clean it up, feel free to contact me.
The conversation had some mostly critical responses, a few supportive, about a lady begging with her child in a parking lot and the known fact that the husband was sitting in a car just across the way. There were some good comments. I do believe the child’s welfare was a valid concern. That’s not something I’m dealing with here.
Just a note to the reader, Your time is an honor that I do not take for granted and I thank you for being here.
If I say something you don’t like, please don’t stop reading.
There might be things you disagree with, but I’m pretty certain if you are a person desiring help for this culture and understanding, there will be something in here that you can take and implement that will be beneficial to you and to those around you. So even if you’re skimming, please just skim to the end. Don’t get stuck on the things you disagree with, just please keep going. Thank you.
My response….
If they are Hungarian gypsies, it is more complicated. That is a lifestyle handed down for Generations. Even if they are not, homelessness is an issue with a lot of strands and threads that need to be sorted through and dealt with.
If we think it’s easy to kick brain patterns and cultural things learned from childbirth, everybody just give up our coffee and eating out (and maybe Teslas…) for the rest of our lives and support homeless centers. No problem, it’s really easy….
No seriously, actually try to give up your coffee or something you really love for like a solid year. Just don’t ever go to Starbucks again. Just give the money to the poor.
But you’ve been taught you deserve it, you’ve been doing it and you have a brain pattern in whatever that is and it is almost impossible to change that, whatever excuses you make for not doing it. You can say you don’t want to, but I double dog dare you to try, and find that you can’t. I will say there are some people who have stronger natural wills than others in some areas and you might find it a little bit easier, but whatever you choose, don’t choose the easy, choose the thing that’s hard to give up and then give your money that you would have spent to the truly poor.
If anyone actually does this, let me know, because I’ll be shocked. But it’s a very practical thing to do. It would save you money – maybe cigarettes, alcohol, eating out, cruises, Teslas… just change your way of doing life for the rest of your life. No problem….
But the problem is we humans really struggle with changing our thinking. If we are honest, often we can’t, which is why we need rescued, a Savior (not Trump, Biden, left or right, sorry).
But we ALL need to change how we have been doing things and how we’ve been thinking. That’s why homelessness is not their problem, it’s our problem. We have created a society that caters to homelessness.
On one side is the lack of authority and structure, a generation that often has lost the first 20 years of training that should have happened preparing them for life skills but simply did not, through no fault of their own, the lack of family relationships and the prioritizing of the value of relationships above stuff and fun and interesting among other things. We as a generation for the past hundred years have made things easier and easier without thinking of the broader consequences, now we are the most bored generation in history we have stripped meaningful work even our own lives and our children are self-destructing through suicide because we’re not outside physically working in sunlight and air and taking the needed amounts of effort and pain needing to keep healthy and sane.
All of these things play into the homeless issue.
When a culture begins to celebrate a lifestyle that caters to a certain group of people or to the healthy or the intelligencia with no regard to how it affects those that are weaker or gifted differently, eventually that culture will destruct from the inside.
There are things that those who are homeless will have to work on changing, but we have to work alongside them or it will not work.
We have to change our bad behavior patterns too, but this will take some thinking and reconstruction and change of heart on the part of society as a whole.
Homelessness is not their problem, it’s our problem. A simple step is to meet over coffee with a group of people and discuss how we as a culture can start initiating change. A simple step is to get all of the art that is in print form off of your walls. Turn the rec centers into places, or add to them rooms free of charge, that cater to the artists and contribute, paints, pencils, frames, canvas start paying them for their work and put their art on your wall and treasure it. Work with the culture on limits. So have commission ready instead of just making a bunch of stuff that will eventually be thrown away. Include structure in this. Find those who are gifted. Have church communities adopt a Group of homeless people and sit down and talk to them and hear their stories. Signs of the balance between working and doing the art. Let There Be Authority structure until so that people that get to do art are people that have learned to clean up after their cells. There needs to be expectations in life. There needs to be growth, not just waste. Differentiate between the family environment that happily puts Juniors pictures up on the wall, no matter what it looks like, and the work force expectations of quality standards that are needed for a culture to survive. Let small things be given for free with larger things given as rewards for hard work, effort and accomplishment. Take stuffing envelopes away from machines and let a culture consider the value of humans working of more value than the next wasted cheapest thing. Forbid AI to take jobs from humans and hate the evil we continue to create, recognizing this is not sustainable. We are creating an environment in our great intelligence and walk of wisdom where the intelligencia and the rich will soon have to take care of 3/4 of a non-working poor.I
It’s OK. It’s not too late, yet…we can stop now. Now. Before it’s too late.
Beloved for whom Christ died (for God so loved the world), this is deadly serious. What deadly fun, exciting interesting world are we creating for our children and the next generation? They will have self-driving Teslas but not know how to control their own emotions brains or bodies. They will be given answers from the internet but not know how to solve problems.
They will be the wealthiest, the smartest, while lacking wisdom, kindness and reason to live, because we have exalted knowledge, fun and stuff above relationships, wisdom and love. In our ignorance we have exalted freedom from Godly authority, contentment with His Truth, Grace and Presence, daily bread, family, community, we have chosen to be free from God’s life and love, not believing it worth the trouble or effort or pain, and so have become slaves to our bodies, to depravity, to death.

“When did the freedom of our religion become the freedom to sin against God? If you’re really wanting freedom from HIS religion, know you are choosing to be free from His love! Do you really want to be free from love…?” From song, “Christ Crucified” by Christa Mason, copyright 2007 (not public)
Not a Christian? πRead this!
Please understand, there are many things that Christians teach at times and say that are contrary to God’s truth and love. There are agnostics and atheists who have rejected God because the god presented to them by Christians is not a god that the Living God believes in either. God is a God of judgment and Justice as well as a Grace. One day all will be understood and be clear. But if you’ve been served a steak dinner burned to the crispπ, please know that I am truly sorry. Give grace yourself, please, to us, for we Christians are fallen too and growing and learning too, and we are living proof of God’s truth and grace!π³ ( I know for myself, I figure if God can save me, he can save anybody!)
God desires for you to know his love and his truth. And if you have seen elements that are not kind and patient and gentle I urge you to continue seeking God. I hope to have another blog at some pointing people to Jesus and things that have worked well for me. Books and resources that I have found to be healthy.
There are truly many Believers and Christians that do reflect God’s love and I have seen that.
But I know there are people who haven’t seen that. Sometimes it is because their eyes are closed, but sometimes it’s because the interactions they have with Believers either is with people that were very immature – an apple seed does not look like an apple tree yet – or their interractions were with wolves in sheeps clothing, calling themselves Christians but not truly living the life of faith and love that is present in Christ and the Word. So if you had bad experiences, just keep in mind that just because we get food poisoning doesn’t mean that we can stop eating for the rest of our lives. Know also that God hungers and thirsts for you to know his truth and love and God is angered by lies especially those done in his Name.
So if you are not a Christian because of what you’ve seen, I urge you to seek Jesus. Because one day every person will stand before him and in that moment when we stand before truth incarnate every lie that we’ve covered ourselves with or believed will be gone. We spend so much time energy and money on life insurance and health insurance yet we are Eternal creatures. We would do well to spend more time, energy and money on the eternal things, not striving to work our way to heaven because that is not the way. Jesus is the way, love cannot be bought earned or sold, only received or it is not love, but once we have received love, sowing in love is blessed none the less.
Side track over. π³π
How to help the homeless?
There are easy practical steps that can be put in place to keeping it relatively safe. Yes you can die. Right now the chances of you dying on the highway is probably a lot higher than you dying from a homeless person that you’re talking to. Somebody can do the math on that. When we care for other people we count the risks acknowledge that yes this could cause me pain and suffering and if we have the power and ability we move forward, because – they and we are worth it.
Talking to homeless people is Not ideal in some circumstances for some people and that’s okay. I’ve had a lot of interaction with homeless people but I have children. I teach them Street smarts but I also do not put them in foolish Danger.
There are people gifted at organization and Ingenuity and Leadership that need to step in and work at the different Avenues and threads of the problem.
Whoever you are, whatever you believe welcome, and thank you for taking the time to read. I was raised multiculturally.
Most of my life everything about me was in the minority, though I finally decided after hating Prejudice for so many years, I can only handle being around white people for so long.π³π³ππ Please laugh. I have brown hair, blue eyes and freckles. Okay technically grey hair now. I just really enjoy being in Multicultural connections it’s something I really like and if you ask me my hobby, it would be people.
I love the beauty in Humanity that God is created. Every breath is intentionally given by God. In the Bible it says all of Heaven rejoices when one sinner repents, so all of Heaven cares about what’s going on here.
Every blade of grass and every tree shares God’s heart and cries out for God, I love you! Every rainbow, every sunset, every healthy DNA is the heart of God Desiring the best for man kind.
But without connection with the source, it is impossible. And in this Fallen World it is impossible and so we look for a new Heaven and a new earth and all people are invited. But sin is not invited. Because we want there to be freedom from poverty but we don’t want to give up our greed which is the source.
And so there was a cross and the new birth, so that little by little the seeds of God’s Kingdom can be planted into our hearts and Minds and bear beautiful fruit, while the weeds are uprooted and little by little beauty grows where there was once nothing but death or destruction. This is real.
I can attest to it and have watched it for 55 years.
God still resurrects the dead.
But no one will be forced into heaven. That is not love. We have to choose, simply turn to Christ. Believe in God’s Authority and the truth but the laws and consequences of breaking time . That is justice . Believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross to forgive sins of all of them receive the new life he offers with a heart desire to know him then obey his commands for baptism and Holy Communion, charity, always staying in the fact that we are saved by grace alone, not by works so no one can boast. We can’t play games with this. Just believe. Truth or lies. Love or hate. Feed thru God’s Word, godly church, loving fellowship, healing through confession to God and others when needed.
This beautiful life though often racked by turmoil, hardships and struggles is deep and rewarding because God Himself is in the mix.
And little by little love draws us and we grow. The natural is never separate from the spiritual anymore than the breath of a person is separated from the body. So at it’s cooler the issue of homelessness is a spiritual issue. We can share practical methods to solve it, and perhaps they may help and we hope so, but ultimately we can solve all mankind’s physical problems, but if the relationship between God and our hearts is not restored and the gift of eternal life freely offered is not gratefully received, truth and grace, our fixes here are the minutest changes that will forever fade away, because every homeless person and every wealthy soul was created to live forever – and will exist forever.
Either eternally with God in love, or away from His love forever.
Yet, we pray and have hope, for nothing is impossible with God. (Even the rich can be saved….)
All are welcome. Please know you are deeply loved.
I share freely and I welcome you to do the same.
Today, give a homeless person a hug. If you are strong and courageous, choose the one nobody else will.π Please use wisdom.π Please don’t do this if you don’t have natural ability and discernment for your own personal safety. Then you would do best to donate money or time to a shelter.
Every time you eat tell God thank you. Be grateful. And pray that the poor around the world might also have food, that greed might be broken through and Wars cease to the ends of the Earth. That God’s good authority might come in our hearts and Minds.
Stopping here for now. My cell phone is getting really glitchy with this blog.
Comments welcome. Blessings! And whoever you are, whatever you believe, thank you and God’s peace!
